Behind the scenes at the Recovery Hub: One month in our new home

Ircl

One month ago, we opened the doors to the Recovery Hub's new home, and we couldn't be prouder of what it's already become.

If you've visited us recently, you'll know it's much more than a building. It's a place where women can feel safe, supported and understood. A place to connect with others, access support, learn something new and focus on what comes next. So, a month in, we thought we'd take you behind the scenes to show you around.

A space built with women, for women

From the moment you walk through the door, every part of the hub has been designed with comfort, wellbeing and recovery in mind.

Look around and you'll find cosy furniture, calming colours and uplifting messages on the walls, all carefully chosen to create a welcoming environment where you can relax and be yourself.

But the best part isn't the décor. It's the women who bring the space to life every day through shared experiences, encouragement, friendship and support.

Step inside

Every room in the hub has its own purpose. Our wellbeing room is where women come together for activities including yoga and wellbeing sessions, creating time and space to focus on themselves and their recovery.

Our therapy room provides a calm, private environment for counselling sessions, whether they're delivered face-to-face or virtually. It's a space where women can talk openly, process their experiences and access professional support at their own pace.

We also have a dedicated group room, where customers take part in programmes exploring healthy relationships, coercive control, abusive behaviours and rebuilding confidence after abuse.

And there's even a beauty therapy room, where women can access treatments and take a little time for themselves. Recovery isn't just about working through difficult experiences. It's also about reconnecting with who you are and doing things that make you feel good.

The people behind the hub

While the space is new, what makes the Recovery Hub special is the people behind it. Our Domestic Abuse Practitioners deliver group programmes in a way that's informed, compassionate and led by the needs of the women in the room.

Sessions provide a safe space to explore experiences, understand the impact of abuse and recognise that no one should ever have to accept abusive behaviour.

Alongside this, we work with local partners to offer additional support, including access to counselling, beauty therapy and free legal guidance through our partnership with a local university. Under the supervision of qualified professionals, women can access support on issues such as family court proceedings, helping them feel more informed and confident about their options.

It really is making a difference

One customer told us: "I've been coming to the Recovery Hub since before the new space opened, and honestly, it's brilliant. We now have a dedicated space where we can come and feel safe to share. I've completed counselling and attended group sessions, yoga and wellbeing activities here too. The Recovery Hub has helped me recover from my experiences and connect with people and make friends, so I feel less on my own."

For us, that's exactly what the Recovery Hub is all about.

One month on...

A month may not sound like long, but we've already seen friendships form, confidence grow and women take positive steps forward on their recovery journeys. We're excited about what comes next.

If you're already part of the Recovery Hub community, thank you for helping make it such a special place. And if you haven't visited yet, we'd love to welcome you.
