At Glow, our mission is simple but powerful: to end domestic abuse and ensure that every individual and family we support can build a safer, brighter future. For the children who come into our refuges across Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Newcastle-under-Lyme, that means more than just having a roof over their heads, it means feeling safe, staying engaged in their education, and having the chance to be children again.
We are proud to share that, over the twelve months, our dedicated refuge team has successfully secured Buttle Grants totalling £17,590. These grants make an enormous difference to children and families escaping domestic abuse, helping to reduce disruption to their wellbeing, education, and sense of belonging.
The funding has allowed us to provide a wide range of support tailored to each family’s needs — from bikes, trampolines, and games consoles to equine therapy, days out, and even practical essentials. Every grant helps create moments of normality and joy, while also supporting children’s learning and recovery.
Our Children and Young Persons Worker explained just how vital this support is:
“When families arrive in refuge, children have often been through huge upheaval. Their worlds can feel like they’ve been turned upside down. These grants mean we can provide them with the tools, experiences, and support they need to continue learning, having fun, and feeling like children again. It helps rebuild their confidence and gives them back a sense of stability and belonging.”
Our team works closely with each family to understand their situation and explore opportunities to make their journey better. Thanks to the Buttle Trust, we’ve been able to go beyond immediate safety and provide the kind of support that truly transforms lives.
The Buttle UK Trust is a national charity dedicated to helping children and young people in crisis. Their Chances for Children Grants provide tailored, practical support that can change lives, funding everything from household essentials to therapeutic activities. Their mission is to give children the best possible chance to thrive, even in the face of adversity.
One parent recently told us:
“Thank you for all the help and support. Thank you for exploring different options to make things happen for me and my family. The support and money received has allowed my kids to feel like kids again and like they belong.”
