At Glow, we know that rebuilding your life after abuse takes time, courage, and the right environment to heal. Our refuges across Staffordshire are safe spaces where women and families can take those first steps toward independence, surrounded by warmth, understanding, and hope.
This month, our Stoke refuge has had a fantastic transformation thanks to the incredible generosity of LC Construction, a local repairs and maintenance company working with our parent organisation, Honeycomb Group.
Glow’s Service Manager, Donna Boon said:” For a long time, we’d dreamed of giving this space a fresh new look. Our focus has always been on the essential things like support, safety, and care for our customers, which meant that decorating had to wait. But when LC Construction heard about our refuge, they offered to step in and transform it for us.
In just three weeks, their team worked with care and respect around our staff and residents, bringing new life to every room. What was once a dark, tired space is now bright, warm, and welcoming, a true reflection of the hope and resilience that fills this home.
The transformation has been absolutely incredible.

“The building now feels lighter and more uplifting, and you can really see the difference it makes to the people who live here. LC Construction have not only refreshed the walls, they’ve lifted the spirits of everyone who calls this place home.”
The team at Johnstone’s Decorating Centre in Hanley also kindly donated all the paint for the project, helping to make the makeover possible.
Leigh Gayes, Director of LC Construction, said: “We wanted to give something back to our community. Knowing that this project will make life a little brighter for the women and families staying here means the world to us.”
For the women and children who arrive at our Stoke refuge, often with little more than hope and determination, this renewed space offers comfort, safety, and a reminder that they deserve beauty and peace in their surroundings.
At Glow, we’re so grateful for the kindness of local businesses like LC Construction and Johnstones Decorating Centre.
