Educating the next generation: preventing domestic abuse before it starts

Glow exists to address, overcome and ultimately end domestic abuse by supporting those affected, challenging harmful behaviours, and working proactively to prevent abuse before it begins. A key part of that mission is educating children and young people about what healthy relationships truly look like.

If we want to break cycles of abuse, we must start early. The attitudes and behaviours that shape unhealthy relationships often develop long before adulthood. By delivering specialist, prevention-led education in schools, Glow helps young people understand respect, consent, boundaries and equality, while building the confidence to recognise and challenge harmful behaviours. This work is about more than meeting curriculum requirements; it is about shaping safer futures.

This spring, we’re hosting two FREE online taster sessions for primary and secondary schools, giving you the opportunity to see first-hand the impact our programmes can have on your pupils.

Primary schools: building strong foundations

In primary schools, relationships education lays the groundwork for how children understand friendship, fairness, emotions and safety. When delivered well, it strengthens emotional literacy and helps children recognise what safe and respectful behaviour looks like.

Glow’s Relationships without Fear programme provides age-appropriate, engaging sessions delivered by specialists in abusive relationship prevention. Schools receive professional resources, pupil workbooks and evaluation reporting to evidence impact and support safeguarding responsibilities.

Secondary schools: breaking the cycle

By secondary school, conversations around consent, power, stereotypes and online pressures become essential. Glow supports schools to deliver Relationships, Sex and Health Education in a way that moves beyond compliance and into meaningful prevention.

Our specialist facilitators create safe spaces where students can engage honestly with complex topics, helping them recognise unhealthy behaviours and build confidence in making safe choices.

Be part of the change

Ending domestic abuse requires early education and long-term cultural change. If you are a teacher or school leader, we would welcome the opportunity to work with you. If you are a parent, please consider sharing this information with your school.

Together, we can educate the next generation and help break the cycle for good.
